For my first interview i interviewed a lady named Kelly Ashton-Hand and she came to speak in my Criminal Justice class a couple of weeks ago. She is an Forensic Scientist at the Forensic Science Center in Chicago. So for my interview i asked her a couple of questions regarding her careers as am Forensic Scientist.

1). How did begin your forensic science career?
A: I Started off with a BS in General Science and went from there.
2). How long do you have to go to school to become a forensic scientist?
A:The only requirement in many states for this work is to have a degree in science.
3). What skills are most important to forensics?
A: Most importantly you need to know how to conduct an experiment and also you need to know how problem solve.
4). What is the most common misconception about forensic science?
A:On TV on shows like CSI they show forensic scientist collecting evidence at the crime scene and analyzing it but in real life there may be a person which collects evidence and another person which analyzes it.
5). What's most satisfying about forensics work?
A:The part i enjoy most about my job is trying to solve a case. I like looking at the evidence and trying to figure out what it has to tell me.
6). What's most challenging about being a forensic scientist?
A:The most challenging part about my job is the pressure on not contaminating the evidence at the crime scene. And also analyzing the evidence properly when in the lab.
7). How do you handle the stress?
A:I handle the stress by leaving all my work problems at work and not taking them home to my family.


The second interview i performed was with a lady named Linda Garcia, and she is a Nurse currently at a nursing home in Lake Bluff. And i also asked her the same questions i asked in my first interview.

1). How did begin your nursing career?
A:I always wanted to be a nurse, i think i was because i watched my mother work as a nurse day after day when i was a child.
2). How long do you have to go to school to become a nurse?
A:I went to school for two years in graduate school.
3). What skills are most important when working as a nurse?
A:I think the most important skill of a nurse is to be caring to other people. I would say the second most important would be to be able to read. So you wont make the mistake in giving a patient the wrong medicine.
4). What is the most common misconception about being a nurse?
A:Everybody thinks that nurses are just people who gives medicine to patients and that's all, but are a big part of care giving throughout a facility.
5). What's most satisfying about being a nurse?
A:The most satisfying part of being a nurse is to watch the lives of people i have saved day after day.
6). What's most challenging about being a nurse?
A:The most challenging part of being a nurse is seeing people you have being caring for for months/years die.
7). How do you handle the stress?
A:I handle the stress by telling myself that i am in this job to save lives and that is the greatest gift i could give.


In interviewing these people it has made my decisions in the career that i want to take harder than before. After i get my major in Anthropology, my minor in Criminology and finish my pre-reqs for nursing i can go in either direction and i still dont know what direction that will be in.
