The Sound Bite

I learned that i have to want to work for it bad enough to get it!!!

Personal reflection

I have grown in ways that i cant believe myself. First off i have put this barrier down that i have had up for so long. A barrier that i had built in order to protect me from the outside world and the harm it could do to me. But i have learned that in order for me to ever see what on the other side of the wall i would have to tear it down and let the light in.

My thinking have changed in teh sense that im not scared anymore to fail at what ever it is that i do because i know i have people behind me 100% that will help me up whenever i fall. And give me the courage to get back in the, and this time go for the goal.

For the first time i have went out of my network and talked to people that i dont know that i would have never talked to in the past if it were not for this class.

3 things i like best about Leadership for change are:

1). I like the fact that we had a professor that couple entertain her student for 3 hours.
2). I like the fact that i had to lay down a plan that could help me get to my long term goal.
3). I like the fact that we had speakers who are already where we want to be to motivate us to get there.

3 things i liked least about Leadership for change are:

1)I didnt like repeating myself over and over again about my goal
2)I think we should have had more than one panel
3)I didnt like the fact that the assignment change significantly throughout the semester

Suggestions for Leadership for change

I dont really have any suggestions for the class because i thing over all no matter what i liked about it and what i didnt like about it, it helped me figure out what is was i wanted out of life. And i thank u for that!!!!! Keep up the good work you have a wonderful class.

Steps to success

For this week the next step that i took was to finish my project for Human Development. This project is really kicking my butt, i thought this project would have been a breeze because it was on teen pregnancy and that is the big topic of today but that is not the case. Instead of me just going on the internet finding sources that talked about teen pregnancy and come up with questions that had to go along with what i wanted to find out about teen pregnancy. That was not the case, i have to get all of my information from scholar article which talk about teen pregnancy, but the questions i look up have to come from the broader topic that has to do with human development. So in order for me to have started my project i had to think about in what way did teen pregnancy have to do with the development of humans. So it was hard to come up with this questions but i finally did. And once that happened i was able to start looking for stuff in the article. This part was no joke, the articles were long as ever and i had to read them in order to find the information i wanted out of them. After all of that was done it was a breeze putting everything together. It was a hard task put i finished and i am very proud of myself. ITS DONE!!!!!

Business Meeting #2

For this week me and Althia talked about first off how i need to keep in her butt about the things that she need to accomplish by the end of the school year. Basically she wants me to be her personal nagger, and i have no problem with doing that, but its too bad i don't get paid for doing it lol.. But i have been good at doing this for her throughout the semester. We agreed that i would keep on her by making sure that when it homework time, it homework time, not time for watching tv or writing people on facebook. Because we all know that once someone is on the internet they always got to check their emails and chat with people that are online but that will not happen for the next two weeks of school.

And for me i have 3 test and a quiz coming up next week and 3 more test during finals weeks. So i really need to be on my grind for these next two weeks. For me its crunch time and i really need to do good on everyone of these tests to keep my grades the way they are and to see if i can make them higher than what they are. It going to be all up to me to study because i dont like studying with people because i be too distracted. So i have told Althia to make sure that i am studying every night for the next two weeks. And my problem is not watching tv or being on facebook but talking on my phone, so i have given her the permission to take my phone from me while i am studying so i wont be talking on the phone instead of studying.

I think that if me and Althia work together we will get the things that we need to accomplish done with no ploblem. We have always been good at motivating each other, so this is just going to have to be good team work.

Sunday Meeting #1

Well i know that i had my business meeting with Althia and we agreed to help each other with motivating each other to study and get our work done that needs to be done. But i know deep inside that this will not be totally up to Althia to keep me focused i have to want to get the work done and be motivated enough to want to get a good grade on these last test. I have been sitting around thinking about what going to happen for these next two weeks and it feels really overwhelming to me. But i know that in the end it will all pay off and after these two weeks are over i can finally rest. But until then it will be WORK WORK WORK!!!!

Steps to Success

For my step for this week i was suppose to look for me a job for the summer time. I want to work in at home care for this summer to see if taking care of people is what i want to do. So i called a couple of people that i know and asked them if they knew a couple of places where i could do at home care without being a CNA and they told me 4 different places where i could possibly work this summer. So i looked them up on the internet and printed out the applications so i could fill them out. I have not yet turned them in yet because all these place are back home. So i will not be able t turn them in until the end of the school year when i go back home.

The Buddy System

My buddy is Althia and she has been a really big help to me ever since meet her two years ago. We have been roommates for two years and when ever i am having problem i can go to her and talk to her about them. We talk about how our grades are doing and how we are doing in our class at least once a week. And if either one of us is feeling like giving up the other helps that person stay focused. And that is what i like about having her as my buddy we keep each other focused on the goals we are trying to reach and never let the other one slip up. We not only talk about our present classes but we frequently check our Dars to make sure everything is going right and that we are headed in the right direction. She is a good help to me.

Steps to Success

My main goal at this point is to graduate with a Major degree in Anthropology and a minor degree in Criminology by the end of 2010. So for this week my next step was to look at my Dars to see how many more credits i needed in order to graduate. So by looking at my Dars i found out that i need 25 more credits in order to graduate, so that means that i will finish my classes by the end of 2010 but i will not be able to graduate until the semester following more than likely. Which is exactly what i expected, so i hope that in taking these last classes that i need i don't fail any of them so it will not set me back even further.

The second part of that after looking at my Dars was to choice the appropriate classes i needed to graduate at the time i expect. So when i choice my classes i choice to take nothing but classes that had to do with my major and my minor. So im taking two classes for my minor and two classes for my major. This gives me 12 credits so im still trying to figure out another class i can take that wont be to difficult. Because i will be taking 5 classes and will need to do good in all of them.

Reflecting on fear

I experience a fear every semester, this is the fear of having to take Chemistry. The type of fear that i experience is survival fear. Chemistry is my worst subject and i have taking two level of chemistry and the first level i failed and had to take a second time. I knew that this was because this was freshman year and i underestimated it and really didn't try, but when i really put some effort into it i passed with flying colors. The second level of chemistry i took i really put my all into it and i still failed. So that just made me nervous about taking chemistry all together because i really don't understand it. And that is what is holding me back from my dream because i am afraid to fail at it again. Failing chemistry is bringing down my GPA and i cant afford for that to happen. So because i am afraid to fail at chemistry it is stopping me from pursuing my dreams as a nurse because that is a requirement for pre nursing.

I think that this is just another stepping stone for me, letting me know that there are things in life that i will not be good at and i will have to work hard to achieve my goals if i really want them. So i have convinced myself that i will be able to do it but i just have to make sure that when i do take the class again i have to be focused on that and only that. So I will put chem off until the last semester before i graduate.

The type of resistance that i have is the fear of failing over and over again. Because i know if i continue to fail at this certain thing i will eventually give up on it because i will feel that it is too challenging for me. But i make this fear work for me because during my whole life i have never had a challenge at school but when i came to college it started to get a little more complicated for me. So this is why i am not going to give up just yet, i will make sure i take this class during a time where i can focus on it and only it. Just to see if this is really something that is too challenging for me. Its just another hurdle for me.

Steps to success:

For one of my tasks that i said that i would complete was to study about for hours a day for two days for my Anatomy test that i had last Friday. I completed this task but in the end it didn't go to well. I had my test a 8 o'clock that morning and when i woke up i felt horrible. I threw up twice that morning before i left and i just felt like shit during the test. And i'm sure we all can guess how that turned out.

But for the second task i said i would complete was to find places that i could intern at to be a nurse. I talked to the manager of this nursing home in Lake Bluff to see if i could get a internship there for the summer and i think there is a very good possibility that this will turn out well. The lady really seemed to like me and is looking forward to talking to me again. I want to do two different internships because im not sure if i want to be a nurse working in a nursing home or if i want to be a nurse working in a hospital at a faster pace environment. This would be a good place for me to get an intern at because it close to my house and if i still wanted to do summer school and the internship i could.

Interview #6

1). What University did you receive your forensic science degree at?
A: I received a master’s degree in forensic science from the University of Illinois at Chicago
2). How long did you have to go to school to become a forensic scientist?
A: The program was about 1.5 to 2 years.
3). How did begin your forensic science career?
A: I became interested in forensic science during my freshman year of undergrad. I liked the idea of being presented with a scientific problem and then working to solve it. At one point or another growing up, many people aspire to be able to make a difference or help out others.I saw forensic science as a way to make an impact. At the time I received my bachelor’s degree, there wasn’t a lot of information on forensics other than TV shows such as CSI.I decided to get my master’s degree in forensic science in order to learn more about the field.
4). How long have you been a Forensic Scientist?
A: I have been a Forensic Scientist for 5 years.
5). What skills are most important to forensics?
A: I think the skills of keeping an open mind and being impartial are very important. When looking at evidence, you don’t want anyone or anything to cause you to misrepresent the evidence or even slant your opinion. The majority of Forensic Scientists are employed by police agencies. This creates the image of being impartial or favoring one side over the other. The Forensic Scientist needs to remember that even though a police agency is signing their paycheck, they can’t influence the results. The results and your opinions given on the evidence can ultimately affect someone’s life.
6). What is the most common misconception about forensic science?
A: There are many misconceptions about forensic science. It is very hard to just pick one because they are so many. I feel most of the misconceptions originate from TV. I don’t if it is the most common misconception, but it is the most common statement I get from people unfamiliar with forensic science is “so you are just like the people on CSI.” Many people feel that a single criminalist or Forensic Scientist will perform every task from photographing the scene, collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, arresting suspects, testing DNA, performing toxicology tests, performing an autopsy, and collecting fingerprints. In reality, Forensic Scientists spend a lot of time in the lab, in the courtroom, and writing reports. We are not out chasing suspects across busy street with high heels on.Many of the characters in the TV show CSI portray what in real life would be the jobs of multiply people as one job done by one person.
7). What's most satisfying about forensics work?
A: It feels good when you hear either from a Detective, Attorney or even on the news that what you did helped to make a difference whether that be that you freed someone that was falsely accused or helped put someone behind bars that broke the law.
8). What's most challenging about being a forensic scientist?
A: It is hard to only hear about bad things happening in the community. Each case that a Forensic Scientist works is the result of someone harming someone else or breaking a law. We never hear about someone helping another person out. It is hard to not let that affect how you view others or even how you view the community you live in.
9). How do you handle the stress?
A: I try to leave work at work meaning I try not to think about work when I get home.I try to participate in other activities outside of work, such as running, to help alleviate any pressures due to stress.

First Step

For my first step i said that i would contact Matt Klara and ask him if there was a program that i could get into which would allow me to get into the college of nursing without having to take organic chemistry. One of his assistants contacted me back and told me that there was no was i could get into the college of nursing with thought taking the two chemistry class that are required as a pre req for nursing. So with that said im still not sure what i going to do.

For the second part of my first step i said i would find out if i could take classes for my pre reqs for nursing at a community college, and if they would transfer. Well i found out that they would because they are credits that i need in order to move on to another 4 year college and there just for my pre reqs. But if they were either for my major or my minor i would not be able to do it.
